Theories have worked with us on 3 playground projects over a number of years. Their ability to work closely with staff and pupils contributed significantly to the success of each of the projects, all of which have had very successful outcomes.

Phoenix is a school for children with autism and some aspects of the design were to support aspects of pupil interaction.

The playgrounds are well built and environmentally friendly with plants and shrub softening the areas. Theories are keen to use new materials and have provided excellent support.

I believe they are genuinely interested in children’s play and they are committed and excited by the quality of play created through their design.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to thank you for all your hard work. I enjoyed playing in the new area. You are doing a fantastic job in the playground and you are making it look very lovely.

The thing I like about the playground now is the trees where we can sit under and relax. The playground is very colourful; I especially like the canopy as it helps protect us from the sun.

I can’t wait for the stage area to be completed. I can sing there, I can sit down and relax. The thing I want to know is what do you call the new area? "Crooked Tower" or maybe "Balancing Tower"? Be quick!

"Our new playground is FANTASTIC"

It has a huge tower, which is brilliant to play on, with a pole you can slide down which is great fun. Lots of lovely, vivid trees, bushes and flowers have been planted and it looks very colourful. We have a new and improved football and basketball pitch. Everyone loves playing there. We have a friendship stop so that children can have friends all the time. When people don't have friends they go to the friendship stop. “

Thank you to everyone at the ‘Theories’ team for our wonderful playground. Our once grey, empty space is now colourful, fun and full of happy children.

The whole process has been a real learning experience for the children. From collecting ideas and telling you about them through the school council, to looking at the plans and giving you feedback about what they liked or wanted to change, to watching the structures being built and finally being able to be involved in the planting process. You really made it ‘their’ playground.

Here are some of the children’s comments:

“It has so many activities now. They are lots of things to play with and you can’t get bored anymore.” Hamza

“The Tower is beautiful because it reminds me of a jungle.” Athar

“The garden is like and forest and the games are exciting.” Shabaz

“The tower is really nice because it has an amazing view from it. You can see what everyone else is doing in the playground. “
